Timothy James Curry was born on April 19, 1946, in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, to Maura Patricia (Langmead),a school secretary, and James Curry, a Methodist Royal Navy chaplain. He pursued his passion for drama and English at Birmingham University, graduating with Combined Honors.
Curry's professional success began in the London production of "Hair," followed by notable roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Glasgow Citizens Repertory Company, and the Royal Court Theatre. His iconic performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show" earned him a recreated role in the Los Angeles and Broadway productions, as well as the screen adaptation, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975).
Curry continued to shine on the New York and London stages, starring in productions such as "Travesties," "Amadeus," "The Pirates of Penzance," "The Rivals," "Love for Love," "Dalliance," "The Threepenny Opera," "The Art of Success," and "My Favorite Year." He also toured the United States with the production of "Me and My Girl." Curry has received two Tony Award nominations for best actor and was honored with the Royal Variety Club Award as "Stage Actor of the Year."
Beyond his acting career, Curry is a talented composer and singer. He has toured the United States and Europe with his own band and released four albums on A&M Records. Curry has also had a successful career in movie and television, with a wide range of credits, including CD-ROM productions, audio books, and animated television series and videos. Today, he resides in Los Angeles, California.
