Thor Heyerdahl's early life began with his father's successful brewing company, which set the stage for his future endeavors. After completing his education, Heyerdahl enrolled in the University of Oslo to study zoology in 1933. The following year, he married Liv Coucheron Torp, with whom he would have two sons, Thor and Björn.
The couple's adventurous spirit led them to temporarily reside on the Marquesa Islands in Polynesia. However, they eventually returned to Norway, where their sons were born. Heyerdahl's fascination with anthropology and the possibility of early human migration led him to study the Bella Coola Indians in British Columbia, Canada.
