Thomas Purcaro Decaro, a multifaceted artist, grew up in the picturesque Roman countryside, Italy, and later relocated to Brussels to pursue his passion for cinema at I.N.S.A.S., honing his skills as a director of photography and cameraman.
Drives by an insatiable passion for the arts, Thomas never ceases to experiment with novel forms of creative expression, continuously pushing the boundaries of the language of the image. This artistic sensibility is evident in his diverse collaborations with creators from various disciplines, including music, such as the Forum des Composers, Ars Musica, and Les Sons des Cinés.
Thomas' work is deeply rooted in the "cinema of the real," where he crafts original narratives from a profoundly human perspective. He skillfully weaves together the ancient and modern, giving rise to innovative filming forms.
Notable Projects:
Following his experience as director of photography for the documentary "Des Hommes" (2014),directed by Stanislas Zambeaux and produced by DERIVES, Thomas continued to make a name for himself in the world of creative documentaries. His own first documentary, "Abbiamo Fatto Bene" (2015),produced by Abyssal Process, tells the enchanting story of an old Roman painter, entirely filmed in his Rome atelier.
In 2017, Abyssal Process entrusted Thomas with the creation of a six-part miniseries recounting the history of a Brussels nightclub from the 1980s, the Mirano Continental. This endeavor led to the production of his first feature-length documentary, "Mirano 80, L'espace d'un rêve," co-written and co-directed with Luc Jabon, a three-year research process (prod. Imagecreation.com, with a planned RTBF broadcast in 2021).
In the interim, Thomas collaborated as cameraman and director of photography with writer Jean-Marc Turin on the documentary project "Terre Noire" (2018),produced by Luna Blue Film, which highlights the reality of post-colonial injustices in the Comoros Archipelago.
In 2019, Thomas once again supported director Stan Zambeaux on his documentary project "La Buena Vida" (Magneto Prod, FR/ESP).
In 2020, Thomas collaborated with composer Stéphane Orlando on the original creation of two mini-series, "The Smile" (FIFF, Théâtre de Namur) and "Night-Fall" (in progress),combining cinematic aesthetics, documentary narrative, and opera.
