Tom was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, where he made his professional stage debut at the age of 17 as Touchstone in Theater IV's "As You Like It" at the Swift Creek Mill Playhouse. He attended the Collegiate School and later majored in history and political science at East Carolina University.
During his time at ECU, Tom became involved in various extracurricular activities, including founding the ECU Lacrosse Club, the Epsilon Alpha chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and the Rugby Club. He also was a member of the East Carolina Ambassadors and participated in the theater department, playing roles in "The National Health" and "Marathon 33".
After graduating, Tom worked in his family's clothing business for five years before realizing that it wasn't the right career path for him. He then decided to pursue his passion for acting and moved to New York City to study with the legendary Stella Adler.
Tom's early career in acting included working as a day player and principal on various soap operas, as well as holding a series 24 license through AIG and working as a financial services specialist. He also worked as a bartender, a ski instructor, and a boat cleaner, and even spent two years working for the Cousteau Society as expedition support.
In Los Angeles, Tom studied with famed acting coach Vincent Chase and worked as an emergency medical vehicle driver during the LA riots. He also worked as a commercial actor, shooting jobs all over the US, Italy, and Japan.
Tom's personal life includes meeting his wife while working as a first mate on a classic wooden racing sailboat in Sweden. She was impressed by his ability to wash dishes for a restaurant chain, and despite his reluctance to do so, she followed him back to Los Angeles and has been with him for 22 years and three kids.
Today, Tom continues to work as an actor, traveling all over the United States and auditioning for various roles.
