Theo Avgerinos, a renowned Greek-American filmmaker, has made a name for himself in the independent cinema scene. Born in New York City, he discovered his passion for storytelling at a young age, which led him to create a documentary as part of his Eagle Scout project. Additionally, he was a captain of his high school football team.
He went on to graduate from Bucknell University in 2000, where he co-founded the university's first student film production company and played a crucial role in establishing Bucknell's first Film Studies major, which later led to the creation of a dedicated film department.
Theo made his feature directorial debut at the age of 25 with Fifty Pills, a film that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and starred Lou Taylor Pucci, Kristen Bell, Jane Lynch, and Michael Peña. His follow-up feature, Americons, received a national theatrical release through AMC Theaters.
Most recently, Theo directed Rising Hope, a powerful documentary that explores resilience and mentorship in struggling communities. The film, which was over five years in the making, premiered to critical acclaim and won multiple awards at its initial festivals.
When he's not behind the camera, Theo enjoys playing the piano, guitar, photography, and history. He also has a passion for travel. Theo currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, jewelry designer Daria de Koning.
