Biography

Tassos Boulmetis, a multifaceted individual, embarked on his educational journey by studying Physics at the University of Athens, laying a strong foundation for his future pursuits.

He then received a scholarship from the A. Onassis Foundation to pursue Film Production and Direction at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),where he honed his skills as a teaching assistant, instructing classes on directing actors for film and television.

Upon returning to Greece, Boulmetis began his career as a director and producer of TV shows for the state TV networks, gradually building a reputation for himself in the industry.

In 1990, he wrote, directed, and co-produced his first feature film, "The Dream Factory," shot on analogue video and later transferred to 35mm film. The film garnered eight awards in Greece and the prestigious Golden Award of Fantasy Movies at the Houston Film Festival.

Subsequently, Boulmetis dedicated several years to directing TV commercials for Greek and European agencies, solidifying his expertise in the field.

His second feature film, "A Touch of Spice," is a deeply personal project, drawing heavily from his own life experiences. The film became an enormous success in Greece, attracting over 1.6 million admissions and being distributed in 45 countries worldwide. "A Touch of Spice" was also presented at various film festivals and received eight awards of excellence in Greece. Furthermore, the film served as Greece's official entry in the Academy Awards of 2005.

Boulmetis has continued to teach Advanced Film Directing at private institutions in Greece and has held the esteemed position of the first unanimously elected president of the Hellenic Film Academy.

His third feature, "MYTHOPATHY," is a coming-of-age story set in 1970s Greece, offering a sarcastic commentary on the country's political system and its role in the current crisis.

In 2018, he wrote, directed, and co-produced the docu-fiction project "1968," which tells the inspiring story of A.E.K., an underdog basketball team founded by refugees in 1924, who eventually won the European Champions Cup after nearly five decades.

Throughout his illustrious career, Boulmetis has been a member of the European Film Academy, a testament to his dedication to the art of filmmaking and his contributions to the industry.
