Biography

Shorty Rogers, a renowned jazz musician, began his musical journey as a bugler with the Furriers Post of Jewish War Veterans Boy Scout drum and bugle corps in The Bronx, New York. This early exposure to music laid the foundation for his future success in the world of jazz.

In the late 1940s, Rogers played with numerous big bands, honing his skills and making a name for himself in the jazz scene. He also arranged music for the legendary Woody Herman, a collaboration that would have a lasting impact on his career.

As his reputation grew, Rogers joined forces with Stan Kenton and His Orchestra, further solidifying his position as a respected jazz musician. He eventually formed his own jazz group, The Giants, and released a string of albums for RCA Victor, showcasing his unique style and compositional skills.

In addition to his work in jazz, Rogers also composed music for the avant-garde UPA cartoons featuring the iconic Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) and Stan Freberg. This creative outlet allowed him to experiment with new sounds and styles, pushing the boundaries of his art.

Throughout his career, Rogers continued to arrange and perform a wide range of pop and jazz recordings, leaving an indelible mark on the music world. His life was tragically cut short during the KLON West Coast Jazz Festival, but his legacy lives on through his timeless music.
