Sergio Kardenas, a renowned Mexican photographer and filmmaker, was born in Mexico City in 1973. His father, a rock musician in the 1960s, had a brief but notable career, releasing a few records with his own band and an LP with RCA Records. However, he gave up his singing career after marrying Sergio's mother.
Sergio's photography career began in November 1987, when he was first paid for his work. His first notable assignment was a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger for Planet Hollywood in Mexico, which was published in People magazine. This experience sparked his desire to see more of his photos in print.
Throughout his career, Sergio has worked with a diverse range of celebrity models, including Angela Bowie, Lady Bunny, Pat Benatar, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Guillermo Diaz, and Randy Jones. His work has been featured in various publications and has earned him recognition as a talented photographer.
Sergio's interest in filmmaking was initially encouraged by photographer and filmmaker Peter Berlin, who recognized his strong visual sense and encouraged him to apply it to cinema. Sergio's film debut, "La Funcionaria Asesina a.k.a. The Slayer Bureaucrat," won the Audience Award Prize at the Arizona Underground Film Festival in 2009, further solidifying his passion for filmmaking.
In addition to his work in film and photography, Sergio has also ventured into modeling and acting. To celebrate his 20th anniversary as a photographer, he published his first book of photographs, "The Magazine of Sex," which features a curated selection of his work. The book is designed to resemble a vintage adult magazine from the 1960s and 1970s and is a limited edition of 500 numbered copies.
Sergio's creative process is highly visual, and he often has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve in his projects. He has a keen eye for detail and is meticulous in his approach to filmmaking and photography. Whether working with actors, actresses, or creating his own videos, Sergio has a distinct vision for how he wants to present himself and his work.
