Sarah Deakins, a multi-award winning actor, writer, and director, was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to British parents. She spent her first year in Chicago before her parents relocated to Canada, where she would later draw inspiration from her artist stepmother's struggles with Schizophrenia.
As a child, Deakins was deeply affected by her stepmother's descent into the streets, and this experience would later influence her work, often focusing on the fragility and resilience of the marginalized and downtrodden.
Deakins graduated from the University of Victoria's theater program and has accumulated extensive stage and screen credits throughout her career. Her early work includes the short film "Late," which premiered at Cannes as part of Telefilm Canada's "Not Short On Talent" Program.
More recently, Deakins has garnered over 25 awards on the festival circuit for her work as writer and director on the film "Greece," produced by Brightlight Pictures. She is also the creator, writer, and director of the award-winning 1/2 hour pilot "Yellow," again produced by Brightlight Pictures.
Deakins' feature film script, "Violet," has received numerous accolades, including top prizes in the Outstanding Screenplay Competition and the Golden Script Competition. The script was also a finalist in the Academy Nicholl Fellowship competition, an honorable mention in the Screencraft Feature Screenplay competition, and a runner-up in the Screencraft Film Fund Competition.
Throughout her career, Deakins has split her time between three main cities: Los Angeles, Toronto, and Vancouver.
