Born and raised in the vibrant city of New York, Sam Hearn embarked on a remarkable journey in the world of show business as early as 1915, making his debut in the theater. Throughout the years, he continued to hone his craft, appearing in numerous stage productions, including the notable 1925 edition of "Mercenary Mary". His impressive stage presence also led to frequent performances in vaudeville, often serving as the opening act with the esteemed Radio Texans.
As the 1930s dawned, Hearn ventured into the world of radio, taking on the recurring role of "Schlepperman" on Jack Benny's iconic show. Over the next two decades, he appeared on a multitude of radio programs and made his mark on the silver screen, most notably in the Hepburn-Tracy classic "Pat and Mike".
When television began to dominate the entertainment landscape in the 1950s, Hearn adapted seamlessly, taking on a diverse range of roles. One of his most memorable performances was an episode of the beloved sitcom "I Love Lucy", while he also reprised his role as Schlepperman on Jack Benny's television show.
Throughout his illustrious career, Hearn remained devoted to his craft, continuing to work in radio, television, and film until his passing in 1964. He was survived by his loving wife, Helen (nee Eley),whom he had married in 1917. Helen, who remained devoted to her husband until the end, was laid to rest beside him at Forest Hills.
