Rolf Schrader's journey in filmmaking began with directing numerous award-winning documentaries, public service announcements, and music videos. This experience laid the foundation for his subsequent projects, including his first short film, "Where River Flows," which premiered as one of the six Opening Night Gala films at the 1995 Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival.
Encouraged by the success of his short film, Rolf went on to write and direct his first feature film, "Stone Coats," which premiered at the 1997 Montreal World Film Festival and acquired worldwide distribution. His next feature film, "Hungry Hearts," was selected to compete at eleven International Film Festivals, earning Rolf two awards for Best Director and securing distribution.
In 2000, Rolf attended the American Film Institute (AFI) as a Directing Fellow, but left the following year to direct his second feature film, "Hungry Hearts." This film has received widespread recognition, garnering Rolf two awards for Best Director and acquiring distribution.
In addition to his feature films, Rolf has also explored the world of short filmmaking. His short, "A.N.I. 1240," a sci-fi thriller, premiered at the 2003 Boston Film Festival and has since been invited to ten International Film Festivals, acquiring worldwide distribution.
Throughout his career, Rolf Schrader has received a total of 36 awards and nominations for his completed works, a testament to his dedication and talent as a filmmaker.
