Person Biography:

Juan De Montreuil was born in Lima, Peru, and currently resides in Los Angeles. In his early years, he studied painting at the Trujillo Fine Arts School under the guidance of renowned Peruvian painter Pedro Azabache. De Montreuil's artistic pursuits continued as he graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, a Master of Arts in Graphic Design, and a minor in Film and Art History. He later honed his directing skills under the tutelage of Judith Weston in Los Angeles.

Career Highlights:

De Montreuil's feature film debut, La Mujer de mi Hermano, based on a novel by Jaime Bayly, was acquired by Twentieth Century Fox and Lionsgate for distribution in Latin America and the US, respectively. The film became one of the most successful in Latin American exhibition, boasting the largest release and biggest opening weekend box office for a Spanish-language film in the US at the time.

His subsequent film, Máncora, was selected for competition in the World Drama category at the Sundance Film Festival 2008 and screened at various festivals worldwide, including SXSW, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Stockholm International Film Festival.

De Montreuil's 2010 science fiction short film, The Raven, garnered significant industry attention and praise for its engaging storytelling and impressive visual effects, earning it the top spot on the industry's short form Black List.

He later directed the feature film Lowriders for Universal Pictures, starring Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir, and the pilot for Amazon's Once Upon a Time in Aztlan.

De Montreuil's latest feature film, Mistura, premiered at the 2024 Mill Valley Film Festival and received a standing ovation at the Morelia International Film Festival. The film went on to win several awards, including the Jury Awards for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress at the 2024 Newport Beach Film Festival, as well as the Jury Award for Best Picture and Best Actress, and the Audience Award for Best Picture at the 2025 Durango Independent Film Festival.
