Rex Hagon, a talented individual, was born in 1947 to William and Corinne Hagon in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as the second of three siblings. His older brother, Garrick, is a renowned actor, having appeared in numerous stage productions, films, and audio books. In contrast, his sister, June, dedicated her life to the field of geriatric medicine, eventually retiring from her tireless work.
Rex's acting career began at the tender age of five, when he started appearing in various CBC-TV and radio productions. One of his early successes was landing the title role of "The Kid" in W.O. Mitchel's iconic "Jake and the Kid." He also had a notable role as Peter Keeley in the popular Canadian TV series "The Forest Rangers," acting alongside Ralph Endersby, Susan Conway, and Peter Tully. The grueling production, shot in Kleinberg, required Rex to draw upon his skills as an outdoors enthusiast, sparking a lifelong passion for nature and the outdoors, which he has passed on to his family.
Rex's tenure on "The Forest Rangers" came to an end so that he could complete his high school education at Upper Canada College. Following his graduation from UCC, Rex enrolled at the University of Toronto, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree before returning to acting on a full-time professional level.
Rex's next significant role was on TVOntario's "The Polka Dot Door," a beloved children's show. The original tapings became a staple among children from 1971 to the late 1980s, with many people still fondly remembering the irrepressible "Polkaroo."
As with any successful Canadian performer, it is essential to maintain a diverse range of projects to ensure survival in the industry. Rex combined his love of children's programming with work in various commercials, film productions, talking books, and instructional videos.
In 1985, Rex transitioned full-time into the field of consulting and coaching, working with senior corporate executives to help them communicate with increased clarity, confidence, and impact.
