Biography

Lillian St. Cyr, later known as Red Wing, was born on February 13, 1884, on the Winnebago Reservation in Nebraska, USA, to Julia De Cora, a Winnebago woman, and Mitchell St. Cyr, a French Canadian and Sauk man.

Red Wing's early life was marked by her attendance at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania, where she earned a degree in 1902.

Her career in the entertainment industry began with short films for prominent studios such as Biograph, Bison, and Pathe, before she landed a feature role in one of Hollywood's earliest Westerns, The Squaw Man, in 1914.

Red Wing's most notable achievement was her marriage to James Young Deer, a producer and director, with whom she collaborated on several projects.

After a successful acting career spanning over two decades, Red Wing retired from the industry in the 1920s and passed away on March 13, 1974, in New York City, New York, USA.
