Ragnar Bragason is a renowned and accomplished writer-director from Iceland, celebrated for his captivating film and television work. Born on September 15th, 1971, in the picturesque village of Sudavik, Ragnar's passion for filmmaking was evident from a young age, as he began creating short films during his high school years.
After honing his skills by directing numerous music videos for both local and international artists, Ragnar made his feature film debut in the year 2000. His distinctive approach to storytelling, inspired by the methods of Mike Leigh and John Cassavetes, involves extensive improvisation with his cast to bring characters to life.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ragnar's work has garnered widespread recognition, earning him numerous nominations and accolades from The Icelandic Film & TV Awards. To date, he has received an impressive 51 awards, including four Best Screenplay and three Best Director awards.
Ragnar's notable films have received international acclaim, with Fiasco claiming the Special Jury Prize at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2000. His film Children won the coveted Golden Swan for Best Film at the Copenhagen International Film Festival in 2007, as well as the Best Direction award at the Transilvania International Film Festival in the same year.
