Born in Hong Kong, Quentin Lee spent his formative years in the city before making a significant move to Montreal, Canada, for his high school education. This marked the beginning of his journey towards a distinguished academic career, which would eventually take him to the prestigious UC Berkeley, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English. Following his undergraduate studies, Lee furthered his academic pursuits by enrolling in the Master of Arts in English program at Yale University. His academic endeavors continued as he pursued his Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing at the UCLA School of Theater, Film & TV in the 1990s.
As a double immigrant and an out LGBTQ BIPOC creator, Lee's life has been marked by remarkable resilience and determination. In recognition of his extraordinary abilities, he was granted a green card and later became a United States citizen, exercising his right to vote for President Obama in his second term.
Lee's directorial debut, SHOPPING FOR FANGS, premiered at the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival in 1997, cementing his place within the Asian American New Wave 97'. A member of both the Producers Guild of America and the Canadian Media Producers Association, Lee has amassed an impressive body of work, having directed and produced over 10 feature films and 3 television series. His films have been released theatrically, with his works sold to prominent streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, Amazon, Tubi, and others, making his creations accessible to audiences worldwide.
