Biography

Here is the biography of Primo Carnera:

Primo Carnera turned to boxing in his early youth and initially had an amateur career. He made his professional debut in September 1928, defeating Leon Sebilo by knockout in the second round. Carnera went on to win his next five fights, but suffered his first loss to Franz Diener in Leipzig due to disqualification. He bounced back with a series of victories, including a win against Young Stribling.

In the 1930s, Carnera began competing in the United States, where he won his first 17 fights by knockout. In February 1933, he faced Ernie Schaaf in New York and knocked him out in the 13th round, but Schaaf tragically died two days later due to injuries sustained during the fight.

Carnera's success continued, and in June 1933, he defeated Jack Sharkey in New York to become the world heavyweight boxing champion. He successfully defended his title twice, against Paulino Uzcudun and Tommy Loughran, and was hailed as an Italian national hero by Benito Mussolini's fascist regime.

However, Carnera's reign as champion was short-lived, as he lost the title to Max Baer in June 1934. He suffered another defeat against future world champion Joe Louis the following year, and was forced to take a break from boxing due to a kidney removal in 1938.

During his time away from boxing, Carnera found success as a boxing actor in Hollywood. He attempted a comeback in 1945, but was unable to regain his former glory, suffering three consecutive defeats before finally retiring from boxing.

Carnera went on to pursue a second career as a wrestler, competing successfully into the 1960s. He also became embroiled in controversy when he was cast in the 1956 film "The Harder They Fall", a novel written by Budd Schulberg about a boxer whose fights were arranged. Carnera sued the film company, but was unsuccessful.

In his personal life, Carnera married Giuseppina Kovacic in 1953 and obtained American citizenship. He settled in Los Angeles with his wife and had two children.
