Biography of Massimo Girotti:
Massimo Girotti, the son of Maria Pia De Cenzo, hailed from a family of artists with a rich heritage. His grandfather, a Neapolitan Pulcinella, had made significant contributions to the history of Neapolitan theater. Girotti's brother, Adriano, was a professor of Italian cinema at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, while his sister, Simonetta, shared his passion for art, just like their father, Renato, who managed a public administration.
Girotti's educational background was marked by his attendance at the prestigious National Academy of Dramatic Art, where he studied alongside notable colleagues such as Lino Capolicchio and Giancarlo Giannini. His early career received a boost when he made his television debut in "Don Giovanni," directed by Vittorio Cottafavi.
However, it was his collaboration with Marco Bellocchio on "China is near" (1967) that brought him widespread recognition. Girotti's personal life was marked by his marriage to Rosanna Marani, a sports journalist, whom he wed on December 6, 1969, in Pisa. The couple had a son, Gabriele, born in 1970.
Tragically, Girotti's life was cut short when he took his own life at the age of 36 in 1981.
