Biography

Paul H. Smith Ph.D. (Major, US Army, ret.) joined the Army's remote viewing psychic espionage program in 1983, invited to participate without prior knowledge of the's program existence. He served for seven years, becoming one of the longest-serving remote viewers in the military program. During this time, he studied under Hal Puthoff and Ingo Swann, conducted thousands of training and operational sessions, and wrote the official manual on controlled remote viewing.

Paul taught CRV to new remote viewer candidates, including now-famous remote viewers Lyn Buchanan, Mel Riley, and David Morehouse. He briefed and demonstrated remote viewing to senators, admirals, and generals, as well as other senior military and government officials. After retiring from the US Army in 1996 as a major, Paul dedicated his life to changing society's attitudes towards applied consciousness.

As president and chief instructor of Remote Viewing Instructional Services, Inc., founded in 1997, Paul has been dedicated to teaching, speaking, and writing about remote viewing. He is also a founding director of the International Remote Viewing Association, serving as past president and chairing seven of its annual conferences since 1999.

Considered a leading authority on remote viewing, ESP, and applied consciousness, Paul has appeared on numerous television and radio shows. He is the author of "Reading the Enemy's Mind: Inside Star Gate ­ America's Psychic Espionage Program" (Tor/Forge 2005) and co-producer of the "LearnDowsing" and "Remote Perception" training programs.

Paul holds a BA from Brigham Young University, an MS from the National Defense Intelligence College, and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. He frequently speaks on remote viewing and parapsychology at national and international conferences.
