Biography

Nita Talbot, born Anita Sokol, was a talented actress of Hungarian/Jewish ancestry, born in the Bronx, New York. She began her career in show business at a young age, accompanying her older sister to auditions at various studios. It was during one of these outings that she was spotted by a talent scout and signed under contract by Warner Brothers, making her screen debut at the age of eighteen in 1949.

Nita's early career was marked by her resemblance to Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall, with studio publicists proclaiming her as a sultry, blonde, husky-voiced actress with gray/green eyes. She was often cast as hard-boiled, street-wise chicks and ambitious career girls during this period.

Nita's first recurring character role was as Gloria in the private detective serial Man Against Crime (1949). She went on to star in various anthology dramas, prime time shows, and sitcoms, including Hogan's Heroes (1965),where she played the crafty Russian spy Marya Parmanova, earning an Emmy nomination.

Throughout her career, Nita appeared in numerous television shows, including Perry Mason (1957),The Thin Man (1957),Mike Hammer (1958),Johnny Staccato (1959),Mr. Lucky (1959),and Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974). She also had a recurring role in the soap General Hospital (1963) and appeared in several films, including Who's Got the Action? (1962),Girl Happy (1965),The Cool Ones (1967),and Buck and the Preacher (1972).

Nita's later career included co-starring roles in half-hour sitcoms, such as Here We Go Again (1973) and Starting from Scratch (1988). She continued to work steadily in television guest appearances until her retirement in 1997, racking up an impressive tally of 153 acting credits according to IMDB.

Nita was married twice, first to actors Don Gordon and then to Thomas A. Geas, both unions ending in divorce.
