Biography

Nina Li, a renowned Chinese actress, was born Li Chi (Li Zhi) on December 31, 1961, in Shanghai. Her childhood was significantly influenced by her father, a respected actor studio teacher in Shanghai and Canton, often referred to as the Chinese equivalent of Lee Strasberg. In 1981, she followed her father to Hong Kong, where she initially worked in a furniture store before pursuing higher education in the United States, majoring in economics and business.

After returning to Hong Kong in 1986, Nina Li participated in the Miss Asia contest and emerged as the champion. Initially, she faced criticism and ridicule from the public, who deemed her beauty "tasteless" and mocked her Cantonese accent. However, with the support of prominent figures like Jackie Chan and Raymond, she quickly gained recognition from filmmakers as one of the most dedicated actresses in the city.

Within a span of just two years, Nina Li became the fifth highest-paid actress in Hong Kong. During her relatively brief acting career, spanning from 1987 to 1992, she collaborated with notable stars such as Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-Fat, Samuel Hui, and Sammo Kam-Bo Hung. In 1992, she decided to retire from acting and ventured into business in mainland China, where she invested in various ventures.

Unfortunately, her business endeavors ultimately failed, and she retreated to private life in 1996. Nina Li later married Jet Li, a martial arts master and international star, who gained widespread recognition after appearing alongside Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998.
