Nikyatu, a Sierra Leonean-American filmmaker, has achieved significant success in the film industry. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University's Tisch Graduate Film school.
Throughout her career, Nikyatu has received numerous awards and accolades. Notably, she has been awarded the NYU's Spike Lee Fellowship Award, the Princess Grace Narrative film grant, and Director's Guild of America Honorable Mentions. Additionally, three of her short films have been acquired by and aired on HBO.
Nikyatu's latest film, "Suicide By Sunlight," was a project funded by THROUGH HER LENS and sponsored by the Tribeca Film Institute and Chanel. The film made its debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and is currently making its way through the festival circuit.
In addition to her work in film, Nikyatu recently made her TV directing debut with an episode of the original scripted horror anthology "Two Sentence Horror Stories," which premiered on CW in September 2019.
Currently, Nikyatu is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Film & Video department at George Mason University, where she teaches screenwriting and directing. She is also in development on her first feature film.
