Nelson Datu Anderson's affinity for cinema began during his childhood in the slums of Tondo, Manila, where his mother introduced him to the captivating performances of iconic actresses such as Gloria Swanson, as seen in the classic film "Sunset Boulevard", and the notable acting skills of Montgomery Clift. Furthermore, his exposure to the films of renowned French director Francois Truffaut only deepened his fascination with the world of cinema.
As he grew older, Nelson's family relocated to Los Angeles, and he made the bold decision to move to New York City at the tender age of 17. This significant move marked the beginning of his journey in the world of acting, as he immersed himself in the vibrant theater scene, taking on a diverse range of roles in stage plays, television shows, and films. Eventually, he established himself as a prominent action star in his native Manila, mirroring the impressive stunt work of the legendary Jackie Chan.
While acting remains a significant passion for Nelson, his ultimate goal is to write, direct, and produce. He has been incredibly fortunate to have had the guidance of renowned mentors such as Arthur Miller, Elia Kazan, Billy Wilder, Kenneth McMillan, and Uta Hagan, who have played a significant role in shaping his artistic vision.
Since establishing ROK Films, Nelson has directed a range of short films and documentaries. One of his latest documentaries is the captivating "I'm Going to Live Till I Die", which tells the story of the remarkable life of Jack "Mr. Bongo" Costanzo. Additionally, he is currently working on a documentary about the legendary musician Chet Baker, in collaboration with Chet Baker's estate. Nelson is also in the final stages of post-production on his documentary "Ugat Filipino-Filipino Roots", which masterfully weaves together the rich history of the Philippines with footage from a thought-provoking art exhibit held at the L.A. City Hall.
