Michelle Kim, a multifaceted Canadian artist, is a director, screenwriter, novelist, and actor. Born in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, she is the daughter of a Canadian human rights lawyer father and a Korean fashion designer mother.
Kim's educational background includes the French Immersion and International Baccalaureate programs in the public school system, which laid the foundation for her future academic pursuits. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies at the University of British Columbia, where she actively involved herself in student journalism and short film acting.
After graduating, Michelle relocated to London, England, to work as a journalist for BBC Radio Five Live and BBC World Service. However, she eventually returned to Vancouver to pursue a career in film and novel writing.
As a creative force, Michelle is the writer, co-director, producer, and actor of the feature film The Tree Inside. The film garnered attention at various film festivals in Asia and North America, including the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and the Northwest Filmmakers' Festival in Portland, where it won audience choice awards.
In addition to her filmmaking endeavors, Michelle is an upcoming novelist. Her debut novel, Running Through Sprinklers, is set to be published by Simon & Schuster in NYC in the spring of 2018.
