Michael White, a Scottish-born individual, entered the world in 1936, marking the beginning of a life filled with artistic endeavors. His educational pursuits took him to the prestigious Sorbonne in Paris, where he honed his intellectual skills.
After cutting his teeth in the fast-paced world of finance as a Wall Street runner in New York during the 1950s, White's interests shifted towards the realm of theatre. He spent a remarkable five years as an assistant to the renowned Sir Peter Daubeny at the World Theatre in London, laying the groundwork for a career that would span decades.
At the tender age of 26, White took the bold step of producing his first West End play, a production of Jack Gelber's The Connection, which catapulted him onto the stage of British theatre.
This success was followed by the production of Sleuth and Oh! Calcutta!, cementing his reputation as a versatile and skilled producer. White's impressive resume continued to grow as he co-ordinated the production of the cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
In 1973, White took on the challenge of producing the original Theatre Upstairs production of The Rocky Horror Show, a venture that would ultimately lead to the creation of the iconic film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in 1975.
