Michael Foley's martial arts journey began with Jiu-Jitsu in high school, which laid the foundation for his future training in various disciplines. After graduating, he continued his training in Omega Systems of Karate and Kempo Chuan Fa. Concurrently, he pursued his passion for acting in college, eventually graduating with a degree in acting.
In 1976, Michael joined the army and was stationed in Hawaii, where he was able to continue his martial arts training. The army supported his classes, recognizing the importance of maintaining his skills for actual anti-drug missions and kickboxing competitions. Over the course of four years, Michael had the privilege of training in a wide range of martial arts styles, including Koden Kan Karate, DanZanRyu Jiu-Jitsu, Kyokushinkai Karate, Shotokan Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Hwa Rang Do, Tai Chi, Shorenji Kenpo, and Muay Thai Kickboxing.
During his time in the army, Michael traveled extensively around the world, both for his work and his martial arts training. He even had the opportunity to train under the legendary Mas Oyama in Japan. Upon leaving the army, Michael continued to train and teach Koden-Kan Karate-Do for over three decades.
In terms of titles and championships, Michael was the U.S. Army Pacific Rim Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion for nine years before an injury forced him to stop competing. He transitioned to tournament karate and achieved success in the hard-style kata divisions. Michael is renowned for his powerful punches and kicks, and he still holds a remarkable 49-0 record with 48 first-round knockouts.
In addition to his martial arts career, Michael has had a successful acting career, working with notable directors such as Isaac Florentine and starring in films like Desert Hawk and WMAC-Masters. He is also known for his skills in choreographing fight scenes, performing stunts, and doing his own fights.
Today, Michael continues to teach karate at his Karate Center in Post Falls, Idaho, and has been training individuals for the US Army since 1977. He is a proud husband and father to his four daughters, and his dedication to his family and his craft is evident in all that he does.
