Michael Enright, a British-American actor, was born in Manchester, UK in 1964 and relocated to the United States in 1983 to pursue an acting career.
Known for his roles in notable films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and Knight and Day (2010),Enright's early life was marked by a desire to serve his country.
Following the devastating 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in 2001, Enright felt compelled to volunteer for military service, first in the UK and then in the US, but was unfortunately rejected by both nations.
In 2014, Enright's sense of duty was rekindled after witnessing video executions committed by ISIS members, prompting him to attempt to volunteer once more.
This time, his efforts were successful, and in early 2015, he joined the Kurdish YPG, or People's Protection Units, in their fight against ISIS.
After spending six months in the US, Enright returned to Syria and continued to fight against ISIS for an additional eighteen months, witnessing the fall of the ISIS capital, Raqqa, in October 2017.
However, his efforts to return to the US were met with difficulties, as he was turned away due to an expired visa.
Enright has since lived in exile in Belize and, as of August 2022, in Mexico, with his ability to re-enter the US hindered by the fact that the YPG is considered a terrorist organization by NATO member Turkey.
A documentary, Yeval (2021),has been made about Enright's film career and combat experience, providing a glimpse into the remarkable life of this actor-turned-warrior.
