Biography

Marc Klein is a multifaceted American creative, known for weaving captivating tales of love and loss that have captivated audiences worldwide.

Born in New York City, Klein spent his formative years in Margate, New Jersey, a seaside community just minutes from the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

As a student at Atlantic City High School, Klein excelled in creative writing, earning numerous awards and securing a college scholarship from the National Foundation for the Advancement of Arts.

Klein attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied filmmaking and screenwriting. He graduated with honors and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in screenwriting.

In 1997, Klein sold his first screenplay, "Love, Jenny," a supernatural love story, to Universal Studios as a vehicle for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. Although the film was never produced, the sale enabled Klein to quit his day job and focus on screenwriting full-time.

Klein's breakthrough came in 2000 with the original screenplay "Serendipity," which sparked a bidding war among Hollywood's top studios. Produced by Miramax Films and starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, the film was declared "an instant romantic comedy classic" and grossed nearly $100 million in the United States alone.

Gene Shalit, a legendary movie critic, praised "Serendipity" as "thrilling, most wonderful, and beyond compare!" The film has since been listed among the best romantic comedies of all time.

In 2005, Klein was chosen by Ridley Scott to adapt Peter Mayle's bestseller "A Good Year," the tale of a morally-compromised investment banker who inherits a vineyard in Provence. The film, starring Russell Crowe, has developed a cult following and inspired fans to take guided tours of the beautiful locations where the film was shot.

Klein also adapted Melissa Bank's bestselling novel "A Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing" and directed the film "Suburban Girl," starring Alec Baldwin and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

As a highly sought-after script doctor, Klein has worked on numerous films, including the Nicholas Sparks adaptations "Dear John," "Safe Haven," and "The Best of Me."

In 2011, Klein was chosen by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda to adapt his Tony-award winning Broadway musical "In the Heights" for Universal Studios. The film is set to be released by Warner Brothers in the Summer 2021.

Klein's other credits include the films "Mirror, Mirror," "The Lost Wife," "Now I See You," and "The In Between," which he also wrote the accompanying Y/A book for.

Residing in Los Angeles, Klein continues to be a prominent figure in the film industry, known for his captivating storytelling and ability to bring beloved characters to life on the big screen.
