Biography

Luis Aira is a critically acclaimed writer and director, recognized internationally for his innovative and cutting-edge creative work. He has developed successful media strategies targeting the Latino market, working with prominent clients such as the New Democrat Network, John Kerry Latino Campaign, Gore 2000 Latino Campaign, and major brands like Coca Cola, MCI, AT&T, JC Penney, and Honda.

Aira's directorial talents have been showcased in various campaigns, including the MTV Latino campaign for "Rock The Vote" featuring a soundtrack by Carlos Santana. He has also directed commercials for Lincoln Mercury, Wells Fargo, Converse, Sears, and Ikea, among others.

Throughout his career, Aira has received numerous awards, including Clio Awards. In 2002, he expanded Ofrenda, Inc. into a full-service media and marketing firm, with production offices in Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo. Ofrenda, Inc. represents an international team of filmmakers and produces independent features, promotional videos, radio campaigns, and commercials.

Aira's expertise in Latino marketing has been sought after by organizations such as the Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project, where he developed creative media campaigns for over ten years. He has also created public service announcements for clients like Mayor Ray Flynn of Boston and Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, as well as The Kaiser Family Foundation.

Born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela, Aira began his career in filmmaking at the age of 15, writing newsreels at the prestigious Bolivar Films in Caracas. His outstanding work and unique vision earned him a government grant to study abroad at Fredrico Fellini's Cinecitta in Italy. He later attended Columbia University and graduated from Emerson College in Communications and Film.

Aira's understanding of youth culture has led him to direct groundbreaking music videos for MTV Network. He has also directed several films, including Chapter X, which won "Best Experimental Film" at the Los Angeles International Film Expo, and Beset, which is part of MOCA's permanent collection and has been showcased in the USA and Europe.

Aira's feature and television projects in development include The Latin Thing, Somewhere, Kemosabe, and Bones for the Dogs.
