Lou Richards, a multifaceted individual, was born into a military family, which led to a nomadic upbringing, attending various schools across the United States, including Scotch Plains Fanwood High School in New Jersey, Brunswick High School in Maine, and institutions in Hawaii, Alabama, and California.
During his time at Texas Tech University, Richards became involved with college radio at KTXT, laying the groundwork for his future career. His first commercial job was working the all-night shift at KLBK in Lubbock, Texas, which ultimately led to a DJ position at KKUA in Honolulu.
Before transitioning to acting, Richards landed a few small roles in the popular television series Hawaii Five-O (1968). However, it was during this time that the acting bug took hold, prompting him to relocate to Los Angeles to pursue his dream.
Throughout his television career, Richards claims his favorite role was working on the sitcom spin-off Gloria (1982),which was derived from the iconic series All in the Family (1971). He fondly recalls being paid to simply show up and be silly every day, deeming it a dream come true.
Richards also had a successful career in cartoon voice work, and he particularly enjoyed collaborating with the renowned voice actor Frank Welker.
