Biography

Liev Schreiber, a talented individual with a unique name pronunciation of Lee-ev, was born in the vibrant city of San Francisco. His mother, Heather Milgram, is a creative and artistic person, being a painter by profession. On the other hand, his father, Tell Carroll Schreiber III, is a seasoned theatrical actor who had a minor role in the 1976 film The Keeper. Liev's maternal grandparents hail from a working-class Jewish family with roots in Poland and Ukraine, whereas his paternal family belongs to an upper-class Protestant background. When Liev was just one year old, his parents made the decision to relocate the family to Canada, only to divorce when he was five years old. Following the separation, Liev and his mother, Heather, moved to New York City, where she worked as a taxi driver. During this period, they resided in abandoned buildings, taking on the unconventional lifestyle of squatters. Despite the challenges they faced, Heather ensured that Liev received an education, teaching him how to read and, interestingly, forbidding him from watching color movies. Instead, they would frequent a local revival house to watch silent and black & white films, with Liev developing a particular fondness for the works of Charles Chaplin. Today, Liev's mother resides in an ashram in Virginia, having pursued a spiritual path. Liev's journey into the world of acting began during his time at Hampshire College, where he initially intended to focus on playwriting. However, his teacher recognized his potential as an actor and encouraged him to pursue this path. He further honed his craft at the Yale University School of Drama in 1992.
