Keira Christina Knightley is a British actress born on March 26, 1985, in Richmond, South West London. She is the daughter of actor Will Knightley and actress-turned-playwright Sharman Macdonald. Knightley has an older brother, Caleb. Her father is English, and her mother is Scottish-born with Scottish and Welsh ancestry.

Knightley's early life was immersed in the acting profession, with her parents being part of the industry. She was granted her own agent at the age of six and made her television debut in the TV series "Royal Celebration" at the age of seven.

Knightley struggled with reading and writing difficulties, which were not officially diagnosed as dyslexia. Despite this, she worked hard and overcame the issues by her early teens.
