Kareem Tabsch, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, has dedicated his career to capturing the lives and stories of those existing on the periphery of mainstream society. His feature films, including Mucho Mucho Amor (2020) and The Last Resort (2018),as well as the short film Dolphin Lover (2015),have garnered widespread recognition and acclaim.
Tabsch's work has been showcased at esteemed film festivals such as Sundance, SXSW, and HotDocs, and featured in prominent media outlets like The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and NPR. In 2020, his film Mucho Mucho Amor was named one of the 20 essential Latino Films by The New York Times, earning numerous award nominations, including an Emmy, GLAAD, and Imagen Awards.
As a first-generation American of Latino and Middle Eastern descent, Tabsch's unique perspective has been recognized and celebrated. He was named a '40 under 40' Documentary Filmmaker by DocNYC, America's largest documentary film festival.
In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Tabsch has served on the National Arts Advisory Committee of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and has previously served on the jury for the Frameline San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival, If/Then Short Documentary Film Prize, and New Orleans Film Festival. He has also served as a program consultant for the Key West Film Festival.
As a co-creator of the Oolite Arts Cinematic Arts Residency, a micro-budget film initiative in his hometown of Miami, Tabsch continues to promote and support emerging filmmakers.
Interestingly, Rush Limbaugh once publicly criticized Tabsch's work, stating that it was contributing to the decay of American society.
