Jurij Drevensek, a renowned Slovenian actor, was born in Maribor, Slovenia, which was then part of Yugoslavia. He has made a name for himself in both film and theatre, earning recognition for his outstanding performances.
Jurij's academic background is impressive, as he graduated from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana. His first major role as an actor was Moritz in Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind, which marked the beginning of his successful career.
Throughout his career, Jurij has taken on over forty different theatre roles in various Slovenian theatres, including many leading parts such as Hamlet in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Jörgen Tesman in Hedda Gabler, Macbeth in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Max in Martin Sherman's Bent, and Jack in Jack, or the Submission by Eugene Ionesco.
Jurij's talent has been recognized internationally, as he was selected as one of the participants at Berlinale Talents in 2012 and at Sarajevo Talents in 2009. He has received numerous awards for his work in theatre and film, including the Vesna award, the Borstnik Award, the Tantadruj Award, and the Dnevnik newspaper award, to name a few.
Prior to becoming a freelance artist, Jurij was a member of the Ljubljana City Theatre ensemble and the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor. He now focuses on taking on new and bold projects that challenge him as an actor and allow him to explore new areas.
In addition to his acting career, Jurij has also ventured into hosting. Since 2017, he has been the host of the Bob leta satirical awards ceremony broadcasted by the national television, and since 2020, he has been hosting the podcast Spilferderber on the Slovenian national radio station Val 202, featuring outstanding representatives of his generation.
Furthermore, Jurij is one of the founders of the newly-established Screen Actors Guild of Slovenia, a testament to his dedication to his craft and his commitment to the Slovenian acting community.
