Nathaniel Junior Oliphant, professionally known as Junior Singo, was born in the vibrant neighborhood of Chawelo, Soweto, South Africa. Growing up in the Mondeor area, he began his educational journey at Laerskool WH Coetzer, later transferring to Regents Park Primary School where he completed his primary schooling.
At the tender age of 12, Junior made his acting debut in the South African hit, Beat the Drum, landing the lead role of Musa. This early exposure to the entertainment industry only fueled his passion, and he went on to complete his matric at Sir John Adamson High School. Initially, Junior decided to pursue a degree in sound engineering, but personal obstacles led him to re-evaluate his career path.
Junior credits his mother, a creative director, and his aunt for encouraging him to pursue a career in acting. His aunt played a significant role in informing him about auditions, and together with his mother, they pushed him to take a chance. At the time, Junior's focus was on music, but his family's support ultimately led him to audition for the role in Beat the Drum.
Recalling his first audition, Junior stated, "Everything was just new to me. But I nailed the audition and got my first role in the entertainment industry." With the support of his family, he went on to audition for another role, landing a part in the local drama, Hopeville. This major role opened doors to more opportunities, and Junior's career took off.
As one of the few child stars to successfully transition to playing adult roles, Junior has appeared in numerous shows, including The Wooden Camera, 4Play, 10 000BC, Heartlines, Zabalaza, Rhythm City, Zone 14, Intersexions, and Generations The Legacy, where he has been a part of the cast since 2016.
Junior is a multifaceted creative who not only enjoys acting but also motivational speaking, event planning, and entrepreneurship. He is a serial entrepreneur with a diverse range of business interests. Despite being surrounded by encouragement and support, Junior remains driven to push himself to new heights and deliver exceptional work.
Passionate about music, Junior has produced tracks for South African rapper, Solo, and makes time to mentor and motivate new artists and actors. He is an advocate for social justice and empowerment, living by the ethos "Each One Lifts One." Junior is an active supporter of the local orphanage, Nkosi's Haven, and is a proud father to a beautiful daughter.
