Joshua David Duhamel was born in Minot, North Dakota, to a family with a rich cultural heritage. His mother, Bonny L., is a retired high school teacher and the executive director of Minot's Downtown Business & Profession Association, while his father, Larry Duhamel, is an advertisement salesman. Josh has three younger sisters, Ashlee, McKenzee, and Kassidy, and his ancestry is a blend of German, Norwegian, French-Canadian, English, Irish, and Austrian.
Before pursuing a career in acting, Josh studied biology and earned his Bachelor's degree at Minot State University, with plans to become a dentist. However, fate had other plans, and he eventually worked in construction before stumbling into show business. Modeling led to acting, and Josh landed his breakout role as the title character in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (2004),based on the novel by Oscar Wilde.
Josh Duhamel has since appeared in a wide range of films and television shows. He starred alongside Hillary Swank and Emmy Rossum in the drama "You're Not You," and opposite Julianne Hough in the romantic drama "Safe Haven," based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks. He also appeared in the thriller "Scenic Route," which tells the story of two friends stranded in the desert.
In addition to his film work, Josh has had success on television. He is best known for his role as Danny McCoy on the NBC crime drama "Las Vegas," and has lent his voice to the Emmy Award-winning animated series "Fanboy & Chum Chum." He has also starred in several seasons of the long-running ABC soap opera "All My Children," earning three consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations.
In his personal life, Josh was formerly married to Fergie, the lead singer of The Black Eyed Peas. The couple has one child together, Axl Jack Duhamel.
