Biography

Here is the biography of Jon Voight:

Jon Voight is an American actor of German and Slovak descent. He was born in 1938 in Yonkers, New York, to parents Elmer Samuel Voight, a professional golfer, and Barbara Agnes (Kamp). His paternal grandfather was a Slovak immigrant, and his maternal grandfather was a German immigrant.

Voight has two siblings: Barry Voight, a volcanologist, and James Wesley Voight, a singer-songwriter. Barry is known for predicting and investigating the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, while James is known for writing hit songs such as "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning".

Voight was educated at Archbishop Stepinac High School and later at The Catholic University of America, where he majored in art. He graduated in 1960 and then moved to New York City to pursue an acting career.

Voight began his acting career in the early 1960s, primarily working in television. He guest-starred in episodes of popular TV series such as "Naked City", "The Defenders", and "Gunsmoke". His first notable theatrical role was in the 1965 Off-Broadway production of "A View from the Bridge".

Voight made his film debut in 1967 with the superhero comedy "Fearless Frank". He then appeared in the Western film "Hour of the Gun" and the critically acclaimed film "Midnight Cowboy", for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Voight's breakthrough role came in 1978 with the war film "Coming Home", for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He has since appeared in a wide range of films, including "Deliverance", "Conrack", "The Odessa File", "Runaway Train", and "Heat".

In the 1990s, Voight continued to appear in films such as "Desert Bloom", "Eternity", and "Mission: Impossible". He also began to appear in television films and miniseries, including "Seinfeld" and "Pope John Paul II".

In the 2000s, Voight appeared in films such as "Pearl Harbor", "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", "Zoolander", and "Ali", for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In the 2010s, Voight appeared in films such as "Transformers", "Dracula: The Dark Prince", and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". He also had a notable television role as Jonas Hodges, the CEO of a private military company, in the TV series "24".
