John Lizzi is a renowned American freelance actor who has made a significant impact in the film, television, stage, and commercial industries. Born and raised in Upstate New York, Lizzi's journey in the world of acting began when he was asked to participate in his high school's senior play, Lil Abner, in which he had four lines. The audience's enthusiastic laughter during his performance was a turning point for Lizzi, as it confirmed his passion for acting.
Following his high school experience, Lizzi pursued his Associates Degree in Drama from Onondaga Community College. He then began acting in local theaters before receiving a call from Uncle Sam, requesting his presence in the United States Army. After completing his military service, Lizzi relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
At California State University at Northridge, Lizzi earned his bachelor's degree in Theatre, with a focus on achieving three specific goals: earning a living as an actor, appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and winning an Academy Award. He was successful in achieving the first two goals, with 14 appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and co-starred in a film short that won an Oscar.
One of Lizzi's most notable roles was in the film "Trevor," directed by Peggy Rajski, where he co-starred as Trevor's Dad. This film addressed the concerns and issues of LGBTQ youth and won an Academy Award for Best Short Film. Additionally, Lizzi guest-starred in several notable television shows, including "Seinfeld" as the Other Guy, and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" as the Robert Shapiro character in the O.J. Simpson trial comedy skits.
Early in his career, Lizzi worked as a stand-in, photo-double, and leg double for various actors, including Robert Blake, Charles Bronson, and Robert DeNiro. He has also appeared in numerous commercials, including I Love NY, The Big East, Time Warner, Heluva Good Cheese, and Kinney Drugs, as well as on stage in productions such as "Steambath" with Jamie Lee Curtis, "Rumors," and "South Pacific."
Lizzi's achievements and awards are a testament to his dedication and hard work in the entertainment industry. He has received a Certificate of Appreciation from the New York State Senate for writing and directing a Respect and Responsibility skit for a school district, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Army for representing the Army as a youth counselor and producing and directing variety and talent shows for young people. Lizzi is also a St.Baldrick's participant and fundraiser, was awarded the Joseph A. Witowski Outstanding Teacher Award in 2019, and is a Vietnam Era Veteran.
