Joel Edgerton, a talented individual, was born on June 23, 1974, in the charming city of Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia. He is the son of Marianne (van Dort),a Dutch immigrant, and Michael Edgerton, a solicitor and property developer. Joel's family is quite accomplished, as his brother, Nash Edgerton, is a filmmaker in his own right.

Growing up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, Joel attended Hills Grammar School, where he likely developed his passion for the performing arts. After completing his education, he enrolled in the Nepean Drama School in 1994, which would prove to be a pivotal moment in his career.

Joel's early work in the entertainment industry was largely focused on television, with notable roles in The Secret Life of Us (2001),The Three Stooges (2000),Dossa and Joe (2002),Secret Men's Business (1999),Never Tell Me Never (1998),and Saturn's Return (2001). His portrayal of William McGill in The Secret Life of Us earned him a nomination for an AFI Award in 2001, providing him with his first significant breakthrough in the television industry.

In addition to his television work, Joel has also made a name for himself on the theatrical stage. He has played a wide range of characters, including King Henry in "Henry V", Prince Hal in "Henry III", and others in "Road", "Third World Blues", and "Dead White Males". Furthermore, he co-wrote, starred in, and produced the short film Bloodlock (1998),showcasing his versatility as a creative force.

Joel's international breakthrough came when he played Uncle Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002).
