Joe Talbot is a fifth-generation San Franciscan and a renowned filmmaker, recognized for his outstanding work in the industry. His debut feature-length film, "The Last Black Man in San Francisco", is a remarkable adaptation of the life story of his childhood friend and long-time collaborator, Jimmie Fails. This poignant film earned Talbot the 2019 Sundance Film Festival Directing Award, as well as a Special Jury Prize for Creative Collaboration. The esteemed film critic, Manohla Dargis, from The New York Times, praised Talbot's emerging work as "heart-skipping, astonishing and exultant", and selected it as the NYT Critics Pick.
