Jenny Tomasin's illustrious career in the entertainment industry began in the early 1970s, when she joined the cast of the highly acclaimed British television series Upstairs, Downstairs in 1971. She played the role of Ruby, the scullery maid, and remained with the show until its conclusion in 1975, appearing in an impressive forty-one episodes.
During her tenure on Upstairs, Downstairs, plans were made to create a spin-off series focusing on the further adventures of Ruby, alongside the characters of Hudson and Mrs. Bridges. Unfortunately, the project was never realized due to the untimely passing of Angela Baddeley, who played the role of Mrs. Bridges.
After leaving Upstairs, Downstairs, Tomasin went on to join the cast of Emmerdale Farm in 1972, where she played the role of Naomi Tolly from 1981 to 1982. She also made guest appearances in various other television shows, including That's My Boy in 1981 and Doctor Who in 1963.
In the subsequent years, Tomasin focused primarily on her work in the theatre, taking part in a tour of Lettice and Lovage and a West End production of The Marquise by Noël Coward in 2004. In this production, she played the role of Alice, a maid, marking a recurring theme in her acting career.
In later years, Tomasin's television appearances had been largely limited to discussing her time on Upstairs, Downstairs. However, in 2005, she made a triumphant return to Emmerdale Farm, this time playing the role of Noreen Bell, a cantankerous villager who was certain to cause trouble for those who crossed her path.
