Jehanne d'Alcy, also known as Fanny Manieux, was a performer at the Théâtre Robert-Houdin from 1888, when it was re-opened by the renowned filmmaker Georges Méliès. She went on to become Méliès's mistress and appeared in numerous films, including the risqué production Après le bal - le tub, released in 1897.
Méliès's first wife, Eugenie, passed away in May 1913, and in 1925, he married d'Alcy. During their early years together, they struggled financially, with d'Alcy's concession of a toy stall at the Gare Montparnasse in Paris being manned by Méliès and serving as their primary source of income for several years.
In 1932, the couple relocated to an apartment at a home for cinema veterans, where they lived out their remaining years together. Following Méliès's death, d'Alcy made a poignant appearance in the framing sequences of Georges Franju's short dramatisation of his life, Le Grand Méliès, released in 1952. The film featured Méliès's son, André, playing his father.
Jehanne d'Alcy passed away on October 14, 1956, at the age of ninety-two, in Versailles. Her life was marked by her significant relationship with Méliès, both on and off the screen, and her contributions to his work as a performer and muse.
