Jason was discovered by Trevor Nunn after completing his classical training at LAMDA, and he was subsequently invited to join the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. He made his mark with roles in several productions, including 'Measure for Measure', 'The Blue Angel', 'Macbeth', and 'The Destiny of Me', alongside notable actors such as Derek Jacobi and Simon Callow.
As his television and film career took off, Jason appeared in a range of projects, including 'Inspector Morse', 'The Chief', 'Iphigenia at Aulis', 'A Dark Adapted Eye' opposite Helena Bonham-Carter, 'Femme Fatale' with Simon Callow, 'Sharpe's Battle' with Sean Bean, and the TV movie 'Gawain And The Green Knight'.
Jason's breakout role came when he won the part of bike-riding 60's policeman 'Mike Bradley' in ITV's hit drama 'Heartbeat', which he played for five years to an audience of over 15 million viewers a week. His performance earned him a nomination for 'Best Newcomer' at The National Television Awards.
Following his success in 'Heartbeat', Jason went on to star in a variety of projects, including 'Fooling Hitler', 'Wrong Side of the Rainbow', 'Winter Solstice', 'Summer Solstice' alongside Peter Ustinov, and the US TV movie 'Mysterious Island' opposite Patrick Stewart and Kyle MacLachlan.
Jason has also made guest appearances in several American TV shows, including 'NUMB3RS', and co-starred in the US movie 'True True Lie' alongside Jaime King and Annabelle Wallis. He then returned to UK screens with his portrayal of 'Alan Daniels' in Lynda La Plante's critically acclaimed ITV drama 'Above Suspicion', which attracted nearly 7.5 million viewers.
In recent years, Jason has appeared in a range of feature films, including 'Bloodshot' with Keith Allen and Danny Dyer, and 'Down Dog' opposite Nick Moran. He has also enjoyed a successful theatre career, starring in productions such as 'Way Up Stream' at the Chichester Festival Theatre, 'Sherlock Holmes - The Best Kept Secret' with Nikolai Foster, and 'Black Coffee' opposite Hercule Poirot.
