Biography

Jascha Heifetz, a renowned violinist, embarked on a remarkable journey in 1917 when he arrived in the United States, a country that would soon become his home. It was not until 1925, however, that he would officially claim American citizenship. Additionally, he took the significant step of joining the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) in 1937, solidifying his professional status as a composer and musician.

Born with a prodigious talent, Heifetz's early education was marked by accelerated academic achievements. At the tender age of five, he entered the prestigious Royal School of Music in Vilna, where he would eventually graduate at the remarkable age of nine. His subsequent education took him to the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied under the esteemed Leopold Auer and earned an Honorary Music Degree.

Heifetz's formal education also included stints at the New York College of Music and Northwestern University. His first professional appearance, a concert at the age of five, marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career that would take him to stages around the world. He made his debut in St. Petersburg in 1911, followed by performances in Berlin in 1912 and, most notably, at Carnegie Hall in 1917.

Throughout his illustrious career, Heifetz concertized extensively, leaving an indelible mark on the world of classical music. His numerous recordings continue to be celebrated, and he was honored with the prestigious title of Commander in the French Legion of Honor. Furthermore, Heifetz also demonstrated his versatility by composing several popular songs, including the well-known "When You Make Love to Me" and "So Much in Love".
