Born on March 21, 1955, in Glicério, São Paulo, Brazil, Bolsonaro is the son of Percy Geraldo Bolsonaro and Olinda Bonturi, with a predominantly Italian ancestry and some German roots.
As he approached the end of his high school years, Bolsonaro received admission to the esteemed Escola Preparatória DE Cadetes do Exército, a prestigious institution that prepares students for the Brazilian Army.
In 1973, he began his tenure at the Escola Preparatória, and the following year, he transferred to the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras, Brazil's premier military academy.
After completing his studies in 1977, Bolsonaro graduated as an Artillery officer and went on to serve in the 9th Field Artillery Group, stationed in Nioaque, Mato Grosso do Sul.
