Iciar Bollain, a talented actress and director, was born in Madrid, Spain. Her impressive acting career spans over three decades, with notable roles in films such as El Sur (1983),Sublet (1991),Malaventura (1988),El Mejor de los Tiempos (1990),Un Paraguas para Tres (1992),Tierra y Libertad (1995),LEO (2000),Nos Miran (2002),La Balsa de Piedra (2003),and La Noche del Hermano (2005).
As a director, Icíar has written and directed numerous acclaimed films. Her second film, Flowers from Another World, won the Best Film award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999. Her subsequent film, Take my eyes (2003),earned seven Goya Awards, including Best Film, and numerous international accolades.
Icíar's 2009 film, Even the Rain, garnered widespread recognition, receiving 13 Goya Award nominations, the Panorama Award at the Berlinale, the Ariel Award for Best Latin-American film, and a shortlisting for the Academy Awards in 2010.
In 2011, she directed and co-wrote Katmandú, un Espejo en el Cielo, which earned nominations for Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Goya Awards.
Iciar's 2014 documentary, En Tierra Extraña, explored the lives of young Spanish immigrants in Edinburgh, Scotland, who had to leave Spain due to the economic crisis and unemployment.
Currently, Iciar is in pre-production for her next film, The Olive Tree, a collaboration with writer Paul Laverty and Morena Films. The film is set to begin principal photography in May 2015.
