Biography

Halina Reijn is a multi-talented artist, boasting a diverse range of accomplishments as a director, actress, author, and producer. Her impressive list of accolades includes the Dutch film Award, the Golden Calf for Best Actress, the Theo D'Or and Colombina Dutch theater awards, and the prestigious Courbois pearl, an oeuvre award honoring an actress who has made a lasting impact on both stage and screen.

Since 2017, Halina has been the proud recipient of the Theo Mann-Bouwmeester Ring, an award recognizing an actress who has significantly contributed to Dutch theatre.

Her directorial feature film debut, INSTINCT, has garnered critical acclaim and has been selected for numerous prestigious film festivals, including Locarno, Toronto, BFI London, Gent, and Chicago. INSTINCT is the first outing for Man Up, Halina's production banner, which aims to create films and television dramas with high current value and relevance, told from a female perspective.

Halina's professional training at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts led to her stage debut in 1997 as Ophelia in Hamlet, directed by Theu Boermans. She has since appeared in various productions, including Shopping & Fucking, Three Sisters, Mourning Becomes Electra, Hedda Gabler, La Voix Humaine, The Fountainhead, and Obsession, opposite Jude Law.

Halina has collaborated with renowned director Ivo van Hove at the International Theatre Amsterdam, performing their plays globally. Her film credits include ZUS & ZO, BLACK BOOK, and VALKYRIE, opposite Tom Cruise. She has also appeared in the Swedish series CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE, directed by Charlotte Brändström.

In addition to her work in film and theatre, Halina is a published author, with her first novel, Prinsesje Nooitgenoeg, debuting in 2005. She has since written several novels, including Halina: doen alsof ik iemand anders ben, Antiglamour (co-written with Carice van Houten),and Loos. Halina is currently working on film scripts and television series based on original ideas.

In 2019, Halina was named one of the 20 most influential people in the Dutch media by a leading Dutch newspaper. She regularly writes columns for Dutch and Belgian magazines and newspapers and is a co-host on a popular daily news show on Dutch TV.
