Gustave Flaubert

Gustave Flaubert was born on December 12, 1821, in Rouen, Seine-Inférieure, France, a city situated on the banks of the River Seine, in the historic region of Normandy, where his father, a Medical Doctor, practiced surgery at Hôtel-Dieu, the very hospital where Flaubert took his first breath. His mother hailed from an aristocratic Norman family, and his early years were marked by a good private education, with a strong emphasis on literature, which would later shape his writing style and artistic inclinations.
