Glenn Close, a renowned actress, was born and raised in the affluent town of Greenwich, Connecticut. Her parents, Elizabeth Mary H. "Bettine" (Moore) and William Taliaferro Close, a prominent doctor, hailed from upper-class families.
Close's journey in the entertainment industry began on the Broadway stage, where she established herself as a talented performer. Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Jenny Fields in The World According to Garp (1982) alongside Robin Williams. This performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The following year, she starred in the hit comedy The Big Chill (1983),receiving her second Oscar nomination for Supporting Actress in the role of Sarah Cooper.
In her third film, Close portrayed Iris Gaines, a former lover of baseball player Roy Hobbs, played by Robert Redford, in the critically acclaimed sports film The Natural (1984). The following year, Close starred in the Oscar-winning drama Dangerous Liaisons (1988),portraying the iconic role of Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil alongside John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. For this role, she was nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Film Award for Best Actress. Although she was a favorite to win, she lost to Jodie Foster for The Accused (1988).
Close continued to shine in the 1980s, starring in the hit drama series Damages (2007) for which she won a Golden Globe Award and two Emmy Awards.
