José R. Somoza, a Nicaraguan military officer, was born in 1913 and lived a life marked by his family's tumultuous history. As the son of Anastasio Somoza García, a powerful and influential figure in Nicaraguan politics, José was destined for a life of involvement in the country's government.
As the brother of Luis Anastasio Somoza Debayle and Anastasio Somoza Debayle, José's family ties to the presidency were undeniable. His brother Luis Anastasio Somoza Debayle served as the 50th President of Nicaragua, while Anastasio Somoza Debayle, José's other brother, held the office of President for a second time, serving as the 53rd President of Nicaragua.
José's own involvement in Nicaraguan politics was significant, and he played a key role in the country's government during his lifetime. However, his time in power was eventually cut short when the Somoza family was overthrown in July 1979. Following this event, José fled Nicaragua and made his way to Miami, Florida, where he lived in exile until his death in 2004.
